Over the years, I’ve created and abandoned several different blogs. One of the main reasons was that I found the process of creating a personal blog, writing and editing posts to be clunky. Of course there are platforms that streamline the process, but I have this urge to have my own piece of the Internet…in other words, have my little island that isn’t a part of another social media platform.
My Goal
Notion
Ideally, my website would have remained fully on Notion only. I’m a long time user of Notion and find it to be very straightforward to use with virtually no learning curve. I also appreciate the minimalist design of Notion websites.
But Notion’s simplicity is a double-edged sword because once you start wanting to do more, you’ll quickly run into Notion’s limitations.
For me, that limit the inability to add custom code on Notion. I wanted a cheap/free and easy way to integrate a comments section on my blog pages, and that’s when I discovered Cusdis. In order to use Cusdis, you need to be able to use custom code. Notion does not allow you to add custom code.
Bullet
I’m going to be honest with you and tell you that I have not tried all the third party Notion website builders out there. There are a TON.
One of the main reasons that I quickly settled on Bullet is that it allows you to add custom code on the free account tier. I believe the options for custom coding are fairly limited, but it met my most immediate needs (to add a comment section). You are only able to add coding to the footer (at least based on my limited coding knowledge and using a free Bullet account). Disclaimer: the extent of my coding ability is copying and pasting.
One of Bullet’s main marketing points is that they are “The Only AI Notion Website Builder.” The AI option is only available if you upgrade, so I have no experience with it.
